Robin’s Review of If You Give a Minotaur a Haircut

A man walks into a salon… no, wait—a minotaur gets stuck in a tablet, forced to find his fated mate only after he’s devoured the knowledge of romance novels.

Sara has been anxiously waiting for her monster to arrive, promised by her best friend with unholy connections. Instead she meets Henry, a man written straight out of a weird romance story; against love she falls for him, anyway.

When she discovers Henry is more than meets the eye, can love be enough to overcome gluttony, horns, and a tail?

Triggers: Explicit sexual content, possessive behavior, supernatural themes, and unusual anatomy

What Did I Just Walk Into?

A woman is promised a supernatural boyfriend, a suspiciously perfect stranger arrives needing a trim, and somehow everyone acts like this is a perfectly reasonable way to begin a relationship.

Honestly, salons already deal with enough chaos without adding destiny, infernal matchmaking, and oversized horn maintenance to the appointment book.

Sara has been patiently waiting for her otherworldly match to show up. Instead, she meets Henry, who appears charming, attentive, and far too well prepared to sweep her off her feet. He knows what he wants, understands romance better than most human men, and has clearly done more research than anyone who has ever opened with “hey.”

Naturally, there is more happening beneath the surface. A lot more.

Here’s What Slapped

Tanya Lynn fully commits to the absurdity and never apologizes for it. This story knows exactly what it is, delivers it confidently, and does not waste valuable page space pretending readers came here for a detailed discussion of municipal zoning.

Henry is equal parts devoted, intense, and ridiculous in the most entertaining way. His knowledge of romantic behavior comes from an especially questionable educational source, yet he somehow manages to put that information to better use than half the dating population.

Sara is easy to root for because she is not simply standing around waiting to be chosen. She has insecurities, expectations, and a growing awareness that perhaps her ideal partner is going to require a larger shower and specialized furniture.

Their chemistry is immediate, enthusiastic, and about as subtle as a bull crashing through a cosmetics counter.

The shorter length works well for this kind of story. The pace stays quick, the humor keeps coming, and the steam does not take a scenic route. There is just enough emotional development to make the relationship feel sweet beneath all the horns, growling, and completely irresponsible levels of attraction.

What Could’ve Been Better

Readers unfamiliar with the previous books may feel slightly confused when side characters or earlier events are mentioned. The main relationship still stands on its own, but knowing the larger series would probably make those references even funnier.

Also, I now have questions about monster-friendly salon chairs that the book refuses to answer.

Perfect for Readers Who Love

Fast paranormal romances, devoted nonhuman heroes, bold heroines, outrageous humor, fated connections, and books that understand subtlety is wildly overrated.

If You Give a Minotaur a Haircut is funny, filthy, unexpectedly adorable, and exactly the kind of reading break needed after something emotionally devastating.

Five stars for proving that sometimes the perfect man is not technically a man and may require extra conditioner.
