Robin’s Review
Triggers: Addiction, loss, separation anxiety, sibling grief
Short books can be hit or miss but sometimes they feel like appetizers when you wanted a full meal. But Through His Eyes? This one is more like a shot of whiskey: quick, sharp, and it burns all the way down.
Ms. J.L.E. drops us straight into the bond between twins Jackson and Jade. They’ve shared everything their whole lives, but Jackson’s itch for adventure takes him on a bus trip to New York where opportunity lurks and so do his demons. It’s a lean, fast-paced novella that sets the stage for the series to come, and it doesn’t waste a single page.
The strength here is perspective. Seeing the world “through his eyes” makes you ache for Jackson even as you want to shake him. He’s ambitious, restless, and painfully human. And the ending? Pure setup crack. It leaves you hanging right when you’re most invested, daring you not to pick up In Her Head immediately.
What Did I Just Walk Into?
A sibling bond tested by ambition, demons, and city grit with an ending sharp enough to make you curse at your Kindle.
Here’s What Slapped:
Twin dynamics written with heart and bite
Pacing that grabs fast readers by the throat
A tight setup that makes the full series feel like a must-read investment
What Could’ve Been Better:
It’s short like brutally so. If you like to savor your suspense, you’ll wish for a few more chapters.
Perfect for Readers Who Love:
Quick, addictive thrillers
Stories about sibling bonds in crisis
Prequels that actually make you want the sequel immediately
P.S. This one might be short, but it packs more punch than novels three times its size. I’m already buckled in for the rest of the series.
