The Ghouls Of Calle Goya: When Malice Results From Good Intentions

Londoner Frank marries Joy, a beautiful young Thai, who works in town. She has always dreamed of going to the Costa del Sol, so they head to an apartment in Fuengirola loaned by Frank’s boss for their dream honeymoon.
Things start to go wrong when Joy fears that the apartment is haunted. Fear leads to depression and deepens into terror. Frank has no idea what to do, except take her back to her family in Thailand, but that brings its own misfortune.
Life finally looks brighter because of the intervention of a secret Scandinavian society.
This is the story of how Evil can result from good intentions. It is a fantasy, but based on true events.

What Did I Just Walk Into?

Triggers: Depression, hallucinations, stalking, cultural clashes

A honeymoon gone wrong, where a London banker and his young Thai bride go from sipping sangria in Spain to battling ghouls, depression, family drama, and a secret Scandinavian society. Oh, and lots of beer. So. Much. Beer.

Here’s What Slapped:

The premise is genuinely fresh: combining paranormal hauntings in Spain with Thai cultural traditions and a mysterious centuries-old society tied to Goya.

Joy’s struggle with fear and depression felt very human, and her return home to Thailand added real cultural depth.

The settings are well described whether it’s the Spanish coast or Thai family life, the backdrop adds richness to the story.

The idea that “evil can come from good intentions” runs consistently throughout, giving the book a strong theme.

What Could’ve Been Better:

The editing could use tightening. Typos, misplaced punctuation, and some repetitive phrasing sometimes pulled me out of the story.

The pacing occasionally drags like whole sections feel more like diary entries than novel scenes, with a little too much “Frank had another beer” detail.

The secret society is intriguing but underdeveloped. It felt more like a side note than a fully realized element of the plot.

Perfect for Readers Who Love:

Supernatural tales with cultural crossovers

Stories where hauntings mix with personal and emotional struggles

Narratives set in multiple countries with strong sense of place

Paranormal suspense that balances human drama with eerie chills
